Join us May 17th at 5:30 pm for an opening reception for Pink Dog Creative resident mosiac artist Holly de Saillan. De Saillan, who is also a local art teacher, brings whimsy and playfulness to her nature inspired works. Her colorful mosiacs will be on display through June 10th.

Of her work, de Saillan writes:

My art is a combination of exploration, experimentation and expression. I revel in the processes of the breaking down, the rebuilding, the combining, and the layering of the material with which I create. My work is a reflection of the processes of nature – what is shed becomes the new. Un-fired clay trimmings and pottery shards come full circle in my work. Observing the small beetle in the garden, or finding shells on the beach – nature and her castoffs contain an endless array of color, texture, and deep runic beauty waiting to be explored. It is an intimate relationship – the love of color, texture, pattern, beauty and the joy of creation. In my quest to negate my negative impact on the environment, my artwork seemed the most obvious place to honor that desire. From my raku fired re-claimed clay pieces to my tumbled pottery shard mosaics, I can make a personal statement – a statement that deeply attests to my love and reverence for art and also for our world.

This opening is part of Third Thursdays on Depot Street. Look for other events at Nourish & Flourish, the Lift Studios, The Magnetic Field & Theatre, & Planet Art (375 Depot), as well as at the Artery. As always we will have complimentary wine and light food available during the show. Dinner reservations are suggested. Hope you can join us!

Join us on Depot Street for April’s Third Thursday activities including a reception for realist painter Ted Prince. The reception kicks off at 6:30 with complimentary wine, light food, and plenty of time to chat with the artist and view his work. Prince’s colorfully detailed landscapes capture the ever-changing beauty of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. Of his work, Prince writes:

I am a realistic painter, painting landscapes, seascapes, sailboats, birds, flowers, and sunsets. I paint mostly in The Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge area, Florida, and Costa Rica, but I continue to travel elsewhere in search of beauty and subjects. I like to work with oils, acrylics and watercolors. They are all very different, yet have similar qualities as well. I bounce back and forth between them, exploring their possibilities and their limitations. I select the medium and technique according to the subject and atmosphere – whatever it takes for me to capture the scenes and subjects and to instill a feeling or mood into each painting – every time it is viewed.

His recent work, the “Blue Ridge Series” will be on display at the restaurant through May 13th.

Other Third Thursday activities include an invite only listening of Now You See Them’s new full-length album “What We Want,” at the Asheville Area Arts Council. Across the street, you can check out Daniel McClendon’s new work at the Lift Studios and visit another art reception from 6:30-8 pm in the beautiful upstairs wellness center, Nourish & Flourish. There’s so much to do on Depot Street! Come down and see for yourself!

Though it’s hard to complain about such a mild winter, we couldn’t be more delighted to see buds on trees and a huge upswing in the amount of locally grown produce now available. The longer days and warmer weather are another cause to celebrate, as we can now reopen our lovely patio during Brunch and on warm evenings.

Fittingly, our menus have been changing a mile a minute with all this wonderful new produce around! On the Food front, Chef Camp is working with a new pork farm, Heritage Farms, and their wonderful local product is appearing on our Signature Burger, and is center stage in our new French Broad Braised Pork Cheeks dish. Seasonal veggies include Sorrel, Asparagus, Leeks, Pak Choy and more.

Over in the Bar, the spring cocktail list is bursting with berries, ripe with citrus, and features the return of two of our most beloved creations: Zeus’ Backbone and the Spring Smile. Additionally, we’re excited to introduce the Mayan Spring: Strawberries & lemon, muddled in a splash of Licor 43, with Aztec Chocolate Bitters & Luksusowa Potato Vodka; served up. For chocolate lovers, this one is not to be missed!

Please join us this Thursday, March 15th for an opening reception of our inaugural photography exhibit featuring the work of local photographer Greta Lutman. This series captures the colorful characters that routinely fill the streets of Asheville through the summer festival seasons and are at once lively, funny and often intimate.

Of her work, Greta writes, “The photographs I take are of candid scenes on the street, often anonymous. My favorite ones are of people that seem to be engaged in a private moment, even among crowds of others. As I compare these photographs with my best photos from decades ago, I can see the commonalities… intimate portraits of people in public places. I think I appreciate their introspective quality as well as the conveyed sense that we, as humans, are always navigating between our private, inner worlds and our relationships with other people.”

As always, we’ll have complimentary wine and light food & we encourage you to wander around Depot Street to check out other events that evening at Nourish & Flourish, The Magnetic Field & the Lift Studios.

In her artist’s statement, she writes: “Through channeling the figures of Modigliani, breathing in the everyday influences of the surrounding flora and fauna, and discovering the simplicity and complexity of American Folk Art artistry, my current creative explorations have emerged and taken shape into a body of work with soft, feminine aesthetics contrasting in combination with bold texture and line work.”

Join us this Third Thursday, January 19th for an art reception featuring the work of River Arts District Artist Court McCracken. The reception starts at 6:30 and will include complimentary wine and light food.

Court’s recent series, “Migrations” will be on view through February 12th. Of her work, Court writes: “‘Migrations’ is a series exploring organic rhythms of movement, decay & growth.

These works are based on found natural objects. The process I employ utilizes gesture as a foundation. Beginning with a spontaneous painting or drawing based on the found natural object, the painting emerges through building layers of both washes of pigment and line echoing the original line drawing.

These new pieces are explorations into organic systems studying both movement and pattern of ecology and human behavior through found natural objects.”

This event is part of a greater Depot Street wide event taking place the Third Thursday of each month. Please visit other businesses on our block to see what they’re up to on Jan. 19th!
